Classroom Resources & Lesson Plans

Bring ethanol education into the classroom with resources designed to make learning about biofuels engaging and hands-on.

Growth Energy, in partnership with the National Association of Agricultural Educators, has developed a high school-level biofuels curriculum that introduces students to ethanol production, agriculture, technology, and innovation. The curriculum includes lesson plans, activity materials, assessments, and PowerPoint presentations with instructor notes.

Hands-On Ethanol Education

The curriculum gives students opportunities to put what they learn into action. Activities include making ethanol and distillers grains from corn, exploring ethanol production and co-products, comparing energy content, researching the Renewable Fuel Standard, and producing ethanol from cellulosic corn-based materials.

The full curriculum includes six activities and can be taught as a complete course or adapted by educators to fit their classroom needs.

Students explore how ethanol plants use fermentation to convert corn into renewable fuel and animal feed products, the history of the Renewable Fuel Standard, the benefits of biofuels, and technologies being used to advance ethanol production.
